Overview

Are you passionate about best practice in infection control? Do you have the skills and experience to make an impact in preventing infections? North Bristol NHS Trust is expanding its Infection Control team to offer a 7 day a week service. We are looking for two experienced nurses to join the team as Band 6 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practitioners. The ideal candidate will have an interest in infection prevention and control; experience as an IPC nurse or a link worker is desirable but not essential. You will have the ability to build effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and work on your own initiative, managing day-to-day clinical work, dealing with complex information and tight timescales. An informal visit to the team is recommended.

Preventing healthcare-associated infection remains a high priority at North Bristol Trust, one of the largest trusts in the South West. The post holder will provide clinical support regarding all aspects of IPC to Trust staff, supported by the IPC Nurse team. The IPC Nursing team are responsible for designated clinical areas, audits and surgical site surveillance within the infection control service. This will involve ensuring IPC policies are up to date and adhered to by working closely with staff, demonstrating good practice, providing education and training and managing relevant projects.

Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical support regarding all aspects of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) to Trust staff, supported by the IPC Nurse team.
  • Be responsible for designated clinical areas, audits and surgical site surveillance within the infection control service.
  • Ensure infection prevention and control policies are up to date and adhered to, by working closely with staff and demonstrating good practice.
  • Provide education and training and manage relevant projects related to IPC.
  • Investigate outbreaks of infection, with reference to source and mode of spread, and advise on measures of control.
  • Assess the risk of transfer and acquisition of micro-organisms and initiate appropriate action to prevent and control infection.
  • Contribute to development, review and update of evidence-based policies, procedures and standards for group-wide implementation to prevent and control infection, and provide support to wards.
