Job summary

Veritas Education Recruitment is seeking a proactive SEMH Teaching Assistant for a specialist school in the Kingston area, starting this September. You will provide essential 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs in a nurturing setting.

A calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach is essential to help learners engage with education and regulate emotions. The role involves collaboration with teachers, therapists, and support staff to monitor progress and foster a safe

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting SEMH pupils in school settings.
  • Ability to deliver 1:1 or small group support.
  • Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building with students.
  • Capacity to work effectively as part of a school team.
  • Experience in care, youth work, or teaching support is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for SEMH pupils.
  • Support pupils in accessing learning within the classroom and around the school.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have had barriers to education.
  • Assist with emotional regulation, wellbeing, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and support staff.
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, structured learning environment.
