Job summary

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Clerical Officer for the Emergency Department in Basildon. You will be the first point of contact, handling patient arrivals, data entry, and reception duties with a focus on accuracy and patient care.

The role requires excellent literacy, strong communication, customer service, and team collaboration. A full shift pattern including days, earlies, lates, nights, and weekends is expected.

Qualifications

• Good standard of literacy, demonstrated throughout application form.
• NVQ in Healthcare.
• Experience within a busy environment.
• Experience within a customer facing environment.
• Administration Experience.
• Experience within an Emergency department.

Responsibilities

• Booking in all patients on arrival to ensure prompt handovers of patients and keep reception areas tidy.
• Escalate issues to domestic services, nurse in charge or matron as appropriate.
• Scan patient notes and ensure timely coordination of transfers and discharges.
• Maintain up-to-date patient records and ensure ambulance handovers are recorded accurately.
• Greet and assist visitors, check identification, and communicate messages to the appropriate staff.
