Protocol Education Ltd. is recruiting a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEND school in Gateshead. The role involves 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with a range of complex needs, focusing on communication, independence, and confidence in a structured environment.

The ideal candidate is patient, resilient, and able to work as part of a team. Experience in SEND or related education/support roles is advantageous.

Qualifications

• You don’t need to be a qualified teacher.
• Previous experience in SEND, education, care, residential care, support work, nursing or youth work would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support
• Help pupils access personalised learning
• Encourage communication and social interaction
• Support sensory regulation and independence
• Assist with transitions and routines
• Promote positive behaviour
• Follow individual support and care plans
• Observe and record pupil progress
• Support pupils during break and lunchtime
• Collaborate with teachers and other professionals
