Job summary

Leonardo UK Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Summer Placement student for a hands-on role within a multi-discipline team. You will work on real-world projects from day one, developing technical skills and gaining insight into the business operations in the defence domain.

The placement runs June–August 2027 and encourages on-site presence for strong team integration, with potential for further placements or graduate development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Currently undertaking a Bachelor level degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar field).
• Be a self-motivated individual, willing to take on new challenges and drive continuous personal development.
• Strong communication skills across a variety of mediums (written, verbal, digital).
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with peers and stakeholders.
• Adaptable to changing demands within the role.
• Offer novel ideas to solve technical problems from academic studies and personal experience.
• Demonstrated project work or placements in industry are beneficial, but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Acquiring the skills required to work effectively within a Professional Engineering environment.
• Supporting members of the Mechanical Engineering Team in delivering technical solutions that meet customer needs.
• Creating and presenting design data to Best Practices and utilizing industry-leading tool sets.
• Delivering detailed designs, including numerical calculations and tolerance studies.
• Producing Manufacturing Data Packs in line with BS8888, including GD&T usage.
• Generating piece parts, assemblies and mechanisms within constraints defined by the Mechanical Lead.
• Working to meet Cost, Schedule and Quality demands.
