Job summary

Sage Pub is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Engineering in the UK to lead a strategic transformation of the data engineering function. You will work with Technology leadership to design the future state, hire key roles, and embed robust data platforms across multiple business units.

You will build data-centric success metrics, govern the data roadmap, and set standards for tooling, CI/CD and data quality. The role includes mentoring a distributed team and delivering measurable data insights.

Qualifications

• Deep technical expertise in data engineering with a broad commercial understanding across business units.
• Experience leading, mentoring and coaching large data teams globally.
• Proven ability to design and implement data transformation, governance and analytics capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Shape the data engineering transformation strategy and drive execution with prioritised initiatives.
• Assess processes, tooling, skills, tech stack, and automation maturity.
• Design hiring and role-redesign plan to build the function to target state.
• Set data engineering KPIs, dashboards and success criteria to track value.
• Develop and govern the data roadmap with product and business leadership.
• Establish data engineering standards, tooling strategy, CI/CD, testing and defects management.
• Embed data responsibilities and ensure semantic models deliver maximum value.
• Provide data-driven leadership reporting and risk assessment to technology leadership.
• Create documentation, playbooks and knowledge-sharing practices for resilience.
• Coach and develop a distributed data engineering team.
