Job summary

Markel in Leeds is seeking a Portfolio Analyst to join a newly formed Portfolio Management & Pricing function. The role sits at the heart of decision-making, turning data into strategic insights and supporting profitability across the insurance portfolio.

You will work with underwriters, actuaries and business leaders to develop analytics, dashboards and reporting, while exploring AI-driven approaches to improve efficiency and insight generation. This is a chance to shape processes from day one.

Qualifications

• Degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Physics or Data Science.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Excel capability.
• Experience using SQL, Python, Databricks or similar data tools.

Responsibilities

• Provide data, insight and analytical support for portfolio management and pricing.
• Extract, analyse and interpret data from multiple sources.
• Support portfolio performance and profitability analysis.
• Produce management information and reporting packs.
• Assist with Quarterly Business Reviews and strategic reporting.
• Support pricing model calibration and performance monitoring.
• Create dashboards and analytical tools.
• Identify trends, opportunities and emerging risks within the portfolio.
• Collaborate with Underwriters and stakeholders to support decision-making.
