Job summary

Markel UK is creating a brand-new Portfolio Management & Pricing function in Leeds and is looking for a talented Portfolio Analyst to join at the start of an exciting journey.

Working with actuaries, underwriters and business leaders, you’ll deliver data-driven insight, analytics and intelligence to drive smarter underwriting and profitable growth across the business. This role offers hybrid working and real opportunities to influence decisions from day one.

Qualifications

• Degree in a numerical discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Physics or Data Science).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Excel capability.
• Experience using SQL, Python, Databricks or similar data tools.
• Ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets.
• Strong communication skills with stakeholders.
• Desire to learn, develop and take ownership of work.

Responsibilities

• Extract, analyse and interpret data from multiple sources.
• Support portfolio performance and profitability analysis.
• Produce management information and reporting packs.
• Assist with Quarterly Business Reviews and strategic reporting.
• Support pricing model calibration and performance monitoring; create dashboards and analytical tools.
• Identify trends, opportunities and risks within the portfolio.
• Work with Underwriters and business stakeholders to support decision-making.
• Explore AI, automation and new technologies to improve efficiency and insight.
