Job summary

Markel Corporation in Leeds is launching a portfolio management and pricing function and seeks a Portfolio Analyst to join the start of this journey. You'll work with actuaries, underwriters and leaders to deliver analytics that drive smarter underwriting and profitable growth.

This role is hybrid, involves building dashboards, data models and management information, with opportunities to shape processes and influence strategic decisions from day one.

Qualifications

• Degree in a numerical discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Physics or Data Science.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced Excel capability.
• Experience using SQL, Python, Databricks or similar data tools.
• The ability to manipulate and interpret large datasets.
• Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage with stakeholders.
• A desire to learn, develop and take ownership of your work.

Responsibilities

• Extracting, analysing and interpreting data from multiple sources.
• Supporting portfolio performance and profitability analysis.
• Producing management information and reporting packs.
• Assisting with Quarterly Business Reviews and strategic reporting.
• Supporting pricing model calibration and performance monitoring.
• Creating dashboards and analytical tools.
• Identifying trends, opportunities and emerging risks within the portfolio.
• Working with Underwriters and business stakeholders to support decision-making.
• Exploring how AI, automation and new technologies can improve efficiency and insight generation.

What We\'re Looking For:

We\'re looking for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys working with data and wants to build a long-term career in analytics, pricing or portfolio management.
