Job summary

Stratford-on-Avon District Council is hiring a Planner to manage development applications, appeals and pre-application inquiries. The role covers residential, commercial and employment schemes across diverse areas with work in the Green Belt and National Landscape context.

You will assess planning applications, provide expert written advice, and contribute to a high-performing planning team. The position is hybrid, permanent, and aligns with local government standards.

Qualifications

• Understanding of planning legislation and the planning system.
• Ability to interpret plans and produce clear reports.
• Collaborative working with colleagues and Planning Committee members.
• Commitment to improving design within development management.
• Degree in planning or related field; RTPI membership or working towards it.

Responsibilities

• Process and determine planning applications under Town and Country Planning Acts.
• Validate applications, site visits and assess comments/ consultations.
• Present applications at planning committee and regulatory committee.
• Provide high quality pre-application advice.
• Be part of the Duty Officer rota for planners and senior planners.
• Arrange meetings to progress negotiations with developers.
• Prepare representations and act as Council witness when required.
• Contribute to delivering high-quality service and performance measures.
