Job summary

Pets at Home is seeking a Payroll Assistant to join our busy payroll team in Handforth, Cheshire. You will support a large payroll of around 9,000 colleagues on a four-week cycle while working in a hybrid setup (1 office day in Handforth, 4 days WFH).

The role focuses on timely, accurate payroll processing, pension auto-enrolment assessments, and pension reconciliation, with opportunities for career development within the team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience administering payroll in an office environment.
• Solid understanding of current payroll legislation.
• SAP payroll experience is an advantage but not essential.
• Experience handling company cars and expenses is beneficial.
• Well organised with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Able to handle confidential information and adhere to GDPR.

Responsibilities

• Process payroll for ~9,000 colleagues on a four-weekly cycle across multiple payrolls.
• Calculate SSP and company sick pay entitlements.
• Calculate statutory entitlements.
• Process AOE and CSA deductions.
• Process P45s and New Starter Checklists.
• Assess colleagues for auto-enrolment into the pension scheme.
• Reconcile pension contributions with the provider.
• Respond to payroll queries to deliver a first-class service.
• Assist with P11d returns using third-party software.
