Job summary

WSP is seeking engineers for HV and EHV substation design in the UK. You will deliver design drawings and specifications for grid and primary substations, covering 11kV up to 132kV, and support project delivery across national programmes.

You will review designs for compliance, act as CDM/Principal Designer on HV/EHV projects, and engage with clients to ensure timelines and budgets are met. A strong grounding in electrical engineering and cost estimation is essential.

Qualifications

• HV and EHV substation experience required.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation for substations.
• Experience with AIS & GIS design.
• Knowledge of engineering standards for HV/EHV plants.
• Experience in cost estimation for designs.

Responsibilities

• Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations.
• Prepare specifications for electrical plant and substation upgrades (11kV–132kV).
• Create feasibility reports, layouts, GA’s and plant specs (transformers, switchgear, battery systems).
• Review supplier and client designs for compliance and current policies.
• Deliver designs per contract, on time and to client specs.
• Act as CDM Designer/Principal Designer on HV/EHV projects.
• Identify and manage health and safety risks with the project team.
• Attend site meetings to support design changes during builds.
• Align project designs with programme, quality, and margin.
• Develop external and internal client relationships.
