Job summary

Cheshire West and Chester Council is seeking an experienced HGV mechanic to join the fleet management team. The role involves vehicle roadworthiness checks, reporting, and coordinating with telematics and tyre contractors across depots, with an emphasis on compliance and value for money.

Hybrid working is available, with travel across the borough to depots and teams. A clean driving licence is essential to visit sites as required.

Qualifications

• Experienced and qualified HGV mechanic with workshop background.
• IT literate and able to use fleet management software.
• Knowledge of Jaama and R2C is desirable.
• Able to engage with colleagues and managers positively.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking vehicle and plant roadworthiness inspections at depots.
• Producing reports of findings and recommendations to monitor legal compliance.
• Liaising with suppliers and contractors (telematics, tyres) to ensure value for money.
• Support managers across the Council in frontline fleet management.
• Control expenditure to ensure timely invoicing in line with Council guidelines.
