Job summary

Travelers is seeking a Development Underwriter to drive new business development and broker relationships in the South of England. You will proactively manage submissions, quotes and binds, while maintaining broker partnerships to deliver tailored insurance solutions.

In this role, you will underwrite and negotiate risks, manage a portfolio, and collaborate across teams to achieve profitability and growth. The position supports a hybrid work arrangement with some travel to meetings.

Qualifications

• A Levels or similar qualification.
• Good knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
• Analytical/critical thinking with ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyse information to align with risk appetite.
• Strong communication and ability to negotiate with brokers.
• Commitment to inclusion and working with diverse teams as assets to objectives.
• Ability to review competitor information and industry trade press for market insights.
• Experience in project management or participating in routine regulatory changes.

Responsibilities

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business across most products.
• Underwrite and negotiate moderate risks to maximise profitability, including MTAs.
• Proactively manage portfolio and target new business and retention.
• Identify risk characteristics and take corrective action with Manager/Team guidance.
• Capture opportunities to write additional lines of business using product knowledge and risk appetite.
• Use technology platforms to quote and bind risk efficiently.
• Support underwriting reviews for policies or portfolios and track action points.
• Cultivate relationships with internal partners to identify cross-selling opportunities.
• Maintain relationships with brokers via phone, email or other channels; travel to meetings as needed.
• Develop and execute pipeline plans and support renewal teams to align with sales plans.
