Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a proactive Data Analyst to join the Business Intelligence Team. You will support the Reporting Service, respond to queries, and work across BI project life cycles to deliver actionable insights for university decision-making.

Responsibilities include gathering requirements, ETL process setup, data validation, and crafting self-service reporting. Strong data literacy and communication are essential for success in this hybrid role.

Qualifications

• High literacy and numeracy; experience of working with data from multiple sources.
• Experience of data extraction from corporate systems and validating this data for accuracy.
• Ability to understand and apply business rules and statutory guidance to data.
• Willingness to learn new technical skills and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to explain complex data clearly.
• Ability to plan work, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to work in a team and independently.
• Experience with data visualization tools for decision makers (Excel, Power BI, Tableau).
• Experience translating business requirements into actionable reporting solutions.

Responsibilities

• Support the running of the University’s Reporting Service by managing the team’s outward-facing inbox.
• Respond to queries and identify repeat requests for self-service reporting.
• Assist in planning, design and creation of reports from the Data Warehouse.
• Develop and document data testing processes and data dictionaries.
• Maintain understanding of data and business rules supporting reporting.
• Extract, transform, and validate data from various sources and propose improvements.
• Support analysis of internal and external data sources.
• Learn and apply BI technology concepts including cube design, SQL and DAX.
• Monitor reporting engagement and adapt to changing needs.
