Job summary

Hampshire Engineering Services seeks a Chief Engineer (Structures) to provide strategic leadership over a large highway structures portfolio in Hampshire. You will own infrastructure decisions, coordinate specialist teams and deliver sustainable engineering outcomes with visible community impact.

The role blends technical leadership with long-term asset ownership, influencing investment and policy while guiding engineers and apprentices toward professional growth.

Qualifications

• Degree in civil or structural engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer status or equivalent experience.
• Extensive senior-level experience in bridge/highway structures design, asset management and assurance.
• Strong understanding of technical approval procedures and risk-based decision making.

Responsibilities

• Lead Hampshire's Structures team with professional and strategic leadership.
• Act as senior technical authority for highway structures and approvals.
• Shape risk-based investment programmes balancing safety, resilience and value.
• Drive asset management best practice in inspection, design and maintenance.
• Lead responses to significant structural events with expert guidance.
• Develop engineers at all career stages and support chartership.
