Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Pre-Sales Design Engineer to support the Applied Products and Retrofit Solutions in the UK. The role is based in the Manchester/Leeds area, with hybrid office and field activity, collaborating with Sales, Operations and customers to design HVAC solutions from equipment supply to full installations.

You will assess requirements, select equipment, create concept designs and generate technical and commercial documentation across manufacturing, process cooling,

Qualifications

• Proven HVAC design/pre-sales experience.
• Strong knowledge of chillers and air handling units.
• Understanding of ventilation, rooftop units and related HVAC systems.
• Ability to interpret customer requirements and craft technical solutions.
• Experience producing technical proposals, equipment schedules and cost estimates.
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
• HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical/Building Services or related Engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

• Support technical selection and application of HVAC equipment for customer enquiries.
• Produce basic concept designs for retrofit, replacement and new installations.
• Conduct site visits to understand customer requirements and survey existing systems.
• Select chillers, air source heat pumps, and AHUs using supplier software.
• Generate technical and commercial proposals, specs, performance reports and cost sheets.
• Develop solutions for various sectors and liaise with customers and internal teams.
• Manage enquiries in Salesforce and progress opportunities.
• Provide accurate cost information and technical documentation for quotations.
