  • Band & Salary: 3B £46,701 - £52,538 per annum. Salary within range and based on experience.

About the team:

The Systems Thinking Team Partnership collaborates across Network Rail and the industry to transform service delivery. We use rapid and profound approaches to help teams understand challenges and implement effective solutions. Our mission is to improve business and industry performance by embedding systemic solutions to major challenges.

Our largest programme, 21st Century Maintenance, impacts the entire national Maintenance organisation, responsible for infrastructure upkeep. Over 20,000 staff across 38 Delivery Units support operations and projects, maintaining assets like signals, power supplies, tracks, and bridges.

The programme aims to develop Maintenance Delivery Units (MDUs) that excel in delivering the right work at the right time, with the right resources, leveraging technological solutions, leadership training, and organizational structures. MDUs will promote best practices, enabling Routes to become intelligent clients and shaping future services.

What does the average day look like?

As Project Manager, you’ll oversee the delivery of national projects within the 21st Century Maintenance programme. Responsibilities include defining project scope, developing plans, managing stakeholder communication, resource allocation, monitoring progress, and enabling solution deployment. You may manage multiple projects simultaneously.

This role involves partnering with stakeholders close to the work. Some projects will require travel to Network Rail sites nationwide, including overnight stays, so flexibility is necessary.

  • Knowledge of project and programme management methodologies.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams in a client-focused environment.
  • Proven influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong commercial, business management, data analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Experience in employee and industrial relations.
