Job summary

UKFE, a subsidiary of UKAEA, leads the STEP HTS magnet technology programme and related model coil development. The role requires delivering the HTS small test coil, short cable, and magnet materials work within tight schedules, guiding a multi-disciplinary team across electrical, cryogenic, and physics disciplines.

You will coordinate with the STEP power plant design team, applying advanced HTS knowledge to meet project milestones and communicate results effectively to partners and stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree and chartered status required.
  • Proven track record delivering innovative technology to industry.
  • Strong HTS magnet design and multi-physics knowledge; quench awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the STEP HTS magnet technology development programme and deliver the small test coil, short cable, and magnet materials programmes.
  • Produce clear technology development plans and lead a multi-disciplinary team to deliver on those plans.
  • Act as a key interface between the STEP power plant design team and the model coil development programme.
  • Communicate complex technical challenges simply to diverse audiences; collaborate with international partners to expand HTS capability.
