Job summary

UK Fusion Energy Ltd. (UKFE) is seeking a senior engineer to lead the STEP HTS magnet technology development programme. You will deliver the magnet materials and test coil activities and guide a multi-disciplinary team to meet STEP milestones.

The role requires an engineering degree (chartered preferred), strong HTS knowledge, and experience in laboratory testing. Onsite work is three days per week with flexible working options; BPSS/DBS checks may apply.

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered status with a suitable professional institution.
  • Track record in developing technology and delivering innovative solutions.
  • Good understanding of HTS magnet design and HTS multi-physics.
  • Experiment design and proficient in electrical and cryogenic laboratory equipment.
  • Commercial awareness and project/budget management experience.
  • Leading teams with strong interpersonal skills in diverse, multidisciplinary settings.
  • Hands-on HTS materials and magnet fabrication experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead our HTS magnet technology development programme for STEP.
  • Deliver the STEP HTS small test coil, short cable, and magnet materials programmes.
  • Produce clear technology development plans and lead a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Identify magnet technology needs and execute discrete test campaigns with a fail-fast mentality.
  • Communicate complex technical challenges and findings to diverse audiences.
