Job summary

365 People Ltd. is seeking an experienced HSEQ Manager to lead the Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality function at our Leicester site.

You will own the ISO management system, drive audits, and ensure regulatory and customer compliance while engaging hands-on with the operation. The role requires robust leadership, strong auditing capabilities and the ability to walk the site, identify risk and implement practical improvements with the management team.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated HSEQ/ISO management systems ownership.
• Experience conducting internal and external audits.
• Proven ability to manage RAMS and safe systems of work.
• Hands-on risk assessment and near-miss investigations.
• Experience leading at site-level with operatives and managers.

The Opportunity

365 People are recruiting an experienced Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Manager for a large, fast-paced industrial operation based in Leicester.

This is a senior, site-based HSEQ position with responsibility for the complete HSEQ function and associated management systems, while also remaining visible and engaged within the operation.

We're therefore looking for more than somebody who has simply worked within an established H&S system.

The successful candidate should have experience of taking ownership of HSEQ/ISO management systems, audits, documentation and compliance, while being equally comfortable walking an operational site, identifying risk and challenging unsafe practices.

The Environment

This is a busy 24/7 industrial processing operation incorporating large processing machinery, conveyors, mobile plant, forklifts, HGV movements, engineering and maintenance activity.

It is a genuine operational environment and can be dusty and noisy.

You'll need to be comfortable working around heavy machinery and engaging directly with operational employees and managers.

This is not a purely office-based compliance role.

Key Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality across the operation.
• Act as the primary HSEQ contact for employees, management, directors and external stakeholders.
• Own and maintain HSEQ/ISO management systems and associated documentation.
• Review, revise and create management-system documentation.
• Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits.
• Maintain relevant company certifications and accreditations.
• Monitor operational activities against environmental permit conditions.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
• Undertake regular site inspections and report findings to operational management.
• Manage risk assessments, RAMS, safe systems of work and permits.
• Drive improvements around machinery safety, isolation procedures, PPE, fire prevention and safe working practices.
• Challenge unsafe behaviours and work collaboratively with operational management to resolve issues.
• Coordinate HSEQ committee meetings and resulting actions.
• Coordinate relevant HSEQ training and employee development.
• Develop and deliver internal HSEQ training where required.

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in experienced HSEQ professionals who have worked within environments such as:

Heavy Manufacturing | Waste & Recycling | Engineering | FMCG | Automotive | Aggregates | Quarrying | Steel | Packaging | Food Manufacturing | Automated Distribution

Previous waste or recycling experience would be advantageous but isn't essential.

More important is experience within a large-scale, fast-moving operational environment with genuine machinery and workplace risk.

Essential Experience

You should be able to demonstrate:

• Strong Health & Safety / HSEQ management experience.
• Previous responsibility for an HSEQ or integrated management system.
• Genuine hands-on experience of ISO management systems and audits.
• Experience maintaining management-system documentation and certification requirements.
• Accident and incident investigation.
• Risk assessments, RAMS and safe systems of work.
• Experience working around machinery and operational risk.
• Confidence challenging unsafe behaviours and practices.
• Strong auditing and compliance experience.

Qualifications

The formal specification includes:

• Higher-level NVQ Level 4 in Occupational Health & Safety Practice or relevant equivalent.
• IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management.
• WAMITAB / Certificate of Technical Competence in Waste Treatment.

The Person

We're looking for somebody who can take ownership rather than simply maintain what's already there.

You'll need the technical knowledge to manage systems, audits and compliance, but equally important is your ability to operate effectively in the real world.

You should be comfortable putting your boots and PPE on, walking the operation, speaking to employees, challenging something that isn’t right and working with operational managers to find a practical solution.

You'll be visible, credible and approachable, while having the confidence to lead the HSEQ function and drive continuous improvement.
