Oliver Rae is recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager to lead HSE across two heavy manufacturing sites in the West Midlands. The role is full-time, on-site in Stourbridge, with a salary up to £50,000 and a strong emphasis on hands-on safety on the shop floor.

You will drive compliance, lead incident investigations, and push continual improvements in safety culture while engaging with regulators, insurers and customers. Part-time consideration available.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Health & Safety Manager in manufacturing or heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Experience maintaining and improving HSE management systems.
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards.
• Strong investigation, audits and root-cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Confident influencing and hands-on safety leadership.

Hours: Monday – Friday 07 30 / 08:00 – 17:30 Monday – Friday (would also consider part time)

We're recruiting on behalf of one of our long–standing manufacturing clients for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of health, safety and environmental compliance across a busy heavy manufacturing operation.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing business where you'll have the autonomy to drive change, improve standards and make a real impact on site safety and culture. This isn't a role where you'll be sat behind a desk all day. Our client is looking for someone who enjoys being out on the shop floor, engaging with teams, identifying risks, implementing improvements and leading from the front.

You'll work across two manufacturing sites, ensuring that people, processes and working environments meet the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and drive the company's Health, Safety and Environmental strategy across both sites.
• Manage and maintain HSE management systems, ensuring compliance with current legislation and industry best practice.
• Lead projects to achieve and maintain ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct and oversee risk assessments, audits and workplace inspections.
• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing effective corrective actions.
• Monitor, analyse and report HSE performance metrics to senior leadership.
• Chair HSE meetings and ensure improvement actions are effectively implemented.
• Manage contractor safety processes and permit–to–work systems.
• Deliver training, toolbox talks and safety initiatives to strengthen engagement and awareness.
• Drive a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.
• Act as the primary contact for external regulators, auditors, insurers and customers on all HSE matters.
• Provide expert guidance and advice to senior management on health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Support sustainability and environmental improvement projects.

About You

• Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager, HSE Manager or similar role within manufacturing, engineering, foundry, fabrication or another heavy industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Experience maintaining and improving HSE management systems.
• Experience with ISO 4501 and ISO 1401 standards.
• Strong investigation, audit and root–cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Confident influencing and engaging employees at all levels.
• A proactive and hands–on approach to safety management.

Desirable Qualifications

• NEBOSH Certificate, Diploma or equivalent qualification.
• IOSH Membership or similar professional accreditation.
• ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification.
• First Aid at Work.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience.
