Job summary

METLEN Energy and Metals seeks an HSE Site Manager to lead health, safety and environmental activities across UK solar PV and BESS projects. You will implement HSE management systems, undertake risk assessments, and ensure compliance with UK legislation and client requirements on live construction sites.

The role requires 3–5 years in a HSE capacity within heavy construction or energy projects, NEBOSH certificates, and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH General Certificate is mandatory.
• 3-5 years of experience in Health & Safety within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, EPC or renewable energy projects.
• Experience on Solar PV, BESS, substations or energy infrastructure is desirable.
• Thorough understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation, including CDM 2015.
• Experience managing subcontractor HSE performance on live construction sites.
• Competent First Aider (3-Day First Aid at Work with Defibrillator).
• NEBOSH Environmental and/or Fire Certificate (desirable).
• ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 Internal or Lead Auditor qualification (desirable).
• Excellent communication, leadership, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites across the UK.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of HSE management systems and project-specific requirements.
• Ensure compliance with UK legislation, CDM 2015, procedures and client requirements across site activities.
• Review PCI and implement HSE requirements throughout construction.
• Prepare and maintain Risk Assessments, Environmental Risk Assessments and HSE documentation.
• Review and approve subcontractor RAMS and Safe Systems of Work.
• Conduct HSE inspections, audits, behavioural observations and compliance reviews.
• Lead accident, incident and near-miss investigations with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain Site Environmental and Waste Management Plan and site emergency plans.
• Ensure signage, emergency equipment, welfare facilities and documentation remain compliant.
• Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks and HSE briefings to promote safety culture.
• Coordinate HSE activities with subcontractors, clients, DNOs and authorities.
• Participate in project meetings and provide HSE leadership and advice.
• Prepare weekly and monthly HSE reports and inspection records.
• Monitor environmental controls, waste management, fuel storage and pollution prevention.
• Support continuous improvement and mentor site teams.
