Job description

Davies and Partners Solicitors is a well-established law firm with over 30 years of experience. It has a national reputation for excellence in the Property sector and offers a wide range of legal services for businesses and individuals. The firm has 5 offices in Gloucester, Bristol, Birmingham, London, and Devon, with approximately 160 staff.

Reporting Line

This role reports to the HR Manager based in Gloucester and supports employees across all locations.

Job Purpose

As an HR Advisor, you will support the HR Manager in delivering a proactive and high-quality HR service across the firm. This hands-on role requires expertise in employee relations, performance management, recruitment, and HR best practices within a professional services environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Providing expert HR advice and guidance to managers and employees on various HR issues, including performance and absence management, and employment law.
  • Leading recruitment and onboarding processes to ensure a smooth experience for new hires.
  • Supporting HR strategy, systems development, and implementation of HR initiatives.
  • Monitoring and analyzing HR metrics to support business decisions.
  • Ensuring all HR policies and procedures are up to date and compliant with UK employment law and industry standards.
  • Assisting in delivering training and development programs for employees and managers.
  • Liaising with external services such as benefits and marketing providers.

Your job title does not limit your duties, and you may be asked to perform other work within your abilities. We reserve the right to make changes in line with technological developments that may impact your duties or methods of working.

Location

The primary location can be in the Gloucester or Bristol office. Some travel to other offices may be required, with expenses covered.

Salary

A pro-rata salary of GBP (phone number removed) per annum, depending on experience.

Hours

Part-time hours to be agreed, with a minimum of 22.5 hours per week. Some hybrid working is possible on an informal basis, but office attendance is also required. Typical working hours are 9 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

  • Proof of identity and qualifications may be required.
  • References may inquire about proceedings or complaints with professional bodies.
  • Suitable checks, including criminal record checks, may be required prior to appointment.

This role complies with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and applicants will be subject to a DBS check.

Legal Status
  • DBS disclosure will be required.
  • Right to work in the UK, e.g., valid passport or visa.
Education / Qualifications
  • GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths at Level 4 (C) or above.
  • CIPD Level 3 or higher in HR (desirable).
  • Professional development training support available.
Skills/Knowledge
  • Experience at HR Advisor level or equivalent.
  • Professional handling of sensitive matters.
  • Confidentiality and discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in ICT, especially MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize and remain calm under pressure.
  • Stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel and undertake training.
  • Legal sector experience and multi-office experience are desirable.

Additional relevant experience may include roles such as HR Advisor, HR Administrator, HR Assistant, etc.
