Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an HR Adviser for our Elgin project team. You will be the on-site HR contact, supporting the HRBP and delivering end-to-end employee lifecycle activities, including onboarding, interviews, and employee relations.

You'll build strong relationships with line managers and staff, ensure consistent recruitment practices, and contribute to engagement initiatives while championing diversity and HR policy adherence.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the first point of contact for HR inquiries from employees and managers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with line managers and employees to align HR with business needs.
  • Attend project and stakeholder meetings to provide HR updates.
  • Facilitate onboarding and support inductions for new starters onsite.
  • Conduct employee interviews to inform retention strategies.
  • Support pay and benefits queries with HR Shared Services/reward.
  • Assist recruitment processes with consistency and diversity in mind.
  • Support talent data gathering for reviews and HR Data team liaison.
  • Assist Employee Relations with scheduling, minutes and initial advice.
  • Champion employee voice and escalate HR issues as needed.
  • Contribute to engagement initiatives and wider HR improvements.

About the role

As HR Adviser, you will support the HRBP in providing comprehensive HR support across the end-to-end employee lifecycle for our BBBP project team based in Elgin. This role will be embedded in the business and be the first point of contact for on site personnel.

What you'll be doing
  • Act as the trusted first point of contact for general HR inquiries from employees and managers, liaising with centres of excellence and the HR Business Partner when required to provide accurate and timely consultative advice.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with line managers and employees, to ensure that HR remains aligned to the operational business needs.
  • Attend project and stakeholder meetings to represent HR and provide HR updates when required.
  • Facilitate onboarding and support the induction of new starters with the support of the onsite team.
  • Conduct employee interviews to gather information sharing insights learned with the HR Business Partner to support the retention strategy of the project.
  • Support any pay and benefits related queries engaging with HR Shared Services/reward to ensue these are resolved in a timely basis
  • Support managers in preparing for and conducting interviews acting as a diversity champion and ensuring consistency in the recruitment process.
  • Support the HR Business Partner in the talent review process by gathering talent data and liaising with the HR Data team where required.
  • When required support the Employee Relations Specialist and HR Business Partner in employee relations processes; this includes scheduling and coordinating meetings, taking minutes during a mediation, investigation or disciplinary meeting and providing initial advice escalating to the HR Business Partner when required.
  • Act as a champion for employee voice by sharing employee concerns with the HR Business Partner.
  • Support the HR Business Partner and management team in the development and delivery of engagement initiatives.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engage with wider HR Operations and COE teams as and when required.
  • Live and champion the Balfour Beatty Behaviours and values supporting the cultural framework of the company.

  • Experience in providing advice and guidance to leaders through change and comfortable working in a dynamic and quickly growing environment with the ability to adjust priorities based on business demand.
  • Emotionally intelligent and able to flex personal style and preferences to establish rapport and credibility building strong relationships and trust with internal and external stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
  • Energetic, creative and pragmatic approach to resolving challenges
  • Knowledge of HR policy, practice and procedures with previous HR experience.
  • Ability to respond to competing priorities and manage a high and diverse workload
  • Proficient IT / MS Office
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and take initiative to solve problems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and tact to communicate effectively in sensitive situations.
  • Confidence to provide feedback and elevate HR issues to the HR BP as and when required.
