Job description

Job Title: Housing Support Worker

Location: Luton, floating support service based within the office and around different locations within the community

Salary: £24,500

Shift Pattern: 12-month fixed-term contract, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. You may be required to work outside these hours as necessary to meet service requirements.

About the role

This is an exciting new role within a brand new contract to support the referral process from the Housing Solutions teams! The service focuses on providing floating and wraparound support to single applicants at risk of homelessness who are able to live independently. The goal is to develop housing support plans to resolve housing needs and support clients into long-term, stable housing.

In this role, you will conduct proactive outreach to develop personalised support plans, including accessing private rental listings and understanding tenancy application processes. You will help participants navigate available resources such as benefits and support services, advocating for their needs and empowering them in their housing journey. You will work closely with the Landlord Liaison Officer to bridge the gap between participants and private landlords, aiming to prevent homelessness and assist participants in remaining in their accommodation.

You will provide follow-up support to ensure tenancy sustainment and successful transitions into permanent housing. You will also keep case files updated and escalate high risks or needs to management.

About you

This role is ideal for someone passionate about ending homelessness and supporting those in need to achieve stable accommodation. You should thrive in a person-centred environment with compassion and a non-judgmental attitude, understanding diverse life experiences and the need for extra support at times. We seek someone with genuine passion, purpose, and a desire to make a difference, challenge stigma, and help people rebuild their lives. You will have:

  • Experience working with people from complex backgrounds or a good understanding of the sector
  • Knowledge of housing and social needs of individuals with multiple and complex needs
  • Knowledge of local community resources, including benefits and employment opportunities
  • Ability to influence and negotiate positive outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral, with the ability to build effective relationships
  • Proactive decision-making skills and a solution-focused approach
  • Flexibility to adapt working patterns to meet service and participant needs
