Job summary

Horton Housing is recruiting a Housing Support Worker for our central Huddersfield service on a full-time permanent contract. Salary £27,588 per year, with a rota pattern including weekends. The role involves welfare support, housing management and safeguarding to help tenants become tenancy ready.

You will report to the Scheme Manager and work with individuals to create tailored plans, access welfare services and attend appointments, ensuring welfare and safety at all times.

Qualifications

  • Experience with people with multiple needs, including mental health challenges, offending behaviour, drugs and/or alcohol problems.
  • Planning, organising and prioritising to maintain accurate and timely reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening.
  • Approachable, adaptable and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Empathetic and caring, showing respect to people in difficult circumstances.
  • Resilient and adaptable, able to think on your feet and make sound decisions.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Full UK driving licence and use of a car for work.

Job Introduction

Do you have experience supporting vulnerable people with becoming tenancy ready, including assisting them to access welfare benefits, and registering for housing with the local authority? Are you empathetic and caring, showing understanding and respect to people experiencing difficult circumstances? Then this role is for you!

Horton Housing are currently recruiting for a Housing Support Worker to join our established service in central Huddersfield on a full time permanent contract. The salary on offer is £27,588.00 per annum, and you must be able to work flexibly across Mondays to Sundays as the contact will be on a rota basis, including working some weekends.

  • 6 week paid annual leave (plus bank holidays)

Reporting to the Scheme Manager, you will work in partnership with the people we support to devise a tailored support plan and support them in achieving their individual goals . This may include helping them to access welfare and supporting them to attend any appointments. You will also be responsible for the welfare of the people we support, undertaking welfare checks, housing management, and following safeguarding policies.

ESSENTIAL SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Experience of working with people with multiple needs, people who may have mental health challenges, offending behaviour, drug and/or alcohol problems.
  • Skills in planning, organising and prioritising work to maintain accurate and timely reports.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening.
  • You are approachable, adaptable and have the ability to remain calm and work effectively under pressure.
  • Be empathetic and caring, showing understanding and respect to people experiencing difficult circumstances
  • Be resilient and adaptable with the ability to think on your feet, prioritise tasks, and make sound decisions in line with our procedures
  • Be personable and kind, with the ability to go above and beyond whilst maintaining professional boundarie
  • Have a commitment to your ongoing personal and professional development
  • A full UK driving licence and use of a car for work purposes
  • Must be able to work flexibly during the week including Saturdays and Sundays
DESIRABLE SKILLS
  • Some experience of supporting people with complex needs, in a paid, voluntary or lived capacity
  • An understanding of trauma informed practice

  • Be able to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service/department
