Job summary

Citizens Advice is seeking a Generalist Adviser to provide housing and welfare benefits advice to Wealden residents. The role supports crisis prevention and income maximisation, with offices in Crowborough, Hailsham, or Uckfield and remote options if necessary.

Experience with Citizens Advice or similar advice services is preferred. The adviser will help address rent arrears, benefit delays and related housing issues, coordinating with partners as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in Citizens Advice or advice giving in housing, welfare benefits, or related areas.
• Ability to interview clients with sensitive listening and questioning skills.
• Ability to manage clients independently with remote support from supervisor when needed.

Responsibilities

• Interview clients to assess housing, welfare and related needs.
• Identify root causes and explore options to support informed decisions.
• Advise on housing rights, homelessness prevention, and tenancy letters.
• Signpost to Money Advice for budgeting and debt guidance.
• Conduct benefit checks, assist with claims and appeals.
• Liaise with local partners and services to coordinate wrap-around support.
