Job summary

A leading healthcare organization in Southampton is seeking a dedicated Housekeeper for a full-time, permanent position. The role involves maintaining cleanliness, supporting nursing staff, and ensuring patient comfort in a medical oncology unit. Ideal candidates will have GCSE-level education, customer service experience, and a willingness to obtain a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate. The working shifts are from 07:00 to 19:00, seven days a week.

Responsibilities

Main duties of the job

Cancer Care at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) is looking for a Housekeeper to join the D12 team. D12 is a 24‑bed medical oncology unit. This is a full‑time, permanent position. The successful candidate will work as an integral part of the housekeeping team, responsible for maintaining cleanliness and safety of the ward and ensuring patient comfort.

Job responsibilities
  • Ensure the ward is tidy, clean general and specialist medical equipment (e.g., defibrillators) and moving & handling equipment such as hoists.
  • Tidy patient bed areas, clean beds when patients leave and perform general environmental cleaning.
  • Support nursing staff with food and drink service.
  • Act as designated Fire Warden for the area.
  • Work shifts 07:00‑19:00, seven days per week.
  • Provide patient care, assist staff, adapt to situations and maintain attention to detail.
Person Specification
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to work towards one.
  • Customer Service experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously.
  • Knowledge of, or training in, manual handling techniques.
