Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking an Assistant Portering & Security Manager to support delivery of safe patient care across Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Lightburn Hospital. Reporting within Facilities, you will lead day-to-day management of Portering and Security Services, ensuring efficient, high-quality service delivery.

Qualifications

• Facilities qualification such as City & Guilds, SVQ or equivalent relevant experience.
• Previous experience of managing staff including recruitment, attendance management, performance management and employee relations matters.
• Strong leadership, organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing demands.
• Good knowledge of Portering and Security Services and an understanding of service delivery within a complex operational environment.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, COSHH, manual handling procedures and Infection Prevention and Control practices.
• Excellent verbal, written and IT skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders.
• Ability to remain calm and make informed decisions in unpredictable situations while promoting teamwork and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Support the operational management and delivery of Portering and Security Services across hospital sites, ensuring high-quality service provision at all times.
• Lead, develop and motivate supervisory and operational staff to achieve excellent performance and service standards.
• Manage staff attendance, performance, training and wellbeing in line with NHS policies and procedures.
• Respond effectively to operational challenges, incidents and service demands to ensure continuity of patient-focused services.
• Monitor quality standards, audits, performance data and improvement plans to drive continuous service enhancement.
• Build positive working relationships with clinical teams, patients, visitors and external stakeholders to support effective service delivery.
• Promote compliance with Health & Safety, Infection Prevention and Control, Fire Safety and other statutory and organisational requirements.
