Job summary

The Cumberland Council in Carlisle is seeking a Homeless Officer on a temporary 12-month contract to manage homelessness prevention, relief and statutory duties. You will work within the Housing Options and Homelessness Service to support vulnerable households and collaborate with partner agencies for positive outcomes.

The role requires experience in housing/homelessness, strong communication and caseload management skills, and a compassionate approach.

Qualifications

• Experience of working within housing, homelessness, support services or a related field.
• Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Able to manage a busy and demanding caseload.
• Demonstrate a compassionate and professional approach with vulnerable customers.
• Knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing practice is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Providing housing advice and homelessness casework in line with homelessness legislation and statutory duties.
• Managing homelessness applications and assessments
• Developing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans
• Supporting customers to access accommodation and sustain housing
• Working with partner agencies including supported housing providers, health services and voluntary organisations
• Supporting households with complex needs and safeguarding concerns
• Contributing to the Council’s homelessness prevention and temporary accommodation priorities
