Job summary

Bury Council is seeking a full-time Homeless Assessment Officer on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. The role focuses on supporting rough sleepers, engaging individuals, and helping them access accommodation and support to sustain housing, while aligning with borough strategies to reduce rough sleeping.

The post holder will be the first point of contact across multiple channels, working to provide practical solutions and statutory compliance under current guidelines.

Qualifications

• Interpret and apply homelessness legislation.
• Experience providing housing and homelessness advice and preventing homelessness.
• Knowledge of the different housing options available.
• Ability to work flexibly and place the customer at the centre of service delivery.
• Working knowledge of Information Technology.

Responsibilities

• Be the first point of contact for customers accessing the service via in-person, telephone, written or online channels.
• Assist customers with self-help and identify solutions to housing problems; provide positive prevention outcomes.
• Help people access accommodation, support services and sustainable housing solutions.
• Fulfil council legal obligations and statutory responsibilities in line with legislation and policies.
• Work flexibly, including rota duties, to meet service requirements and keep customer at the centre of delivery.
