Role Overview

Provide tailored advice to customers approaching the Housing Options and Advice Service on various options including housing, training & employment, wellbeing, welfare benefits, and debt management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Offer specialist advice and casework to residents, including homeless households, those threatened with homelessness, households in insecure accommodation, young people, and families.
2. Collaborate with the Housing Assessment and Allocation Services to prevent homelessness and promote effective housing solutions.
3. Coordinate with the Private Sector Initiatives Team to deliver a range of housing options meeting the needs of homeless and other vulnerable households.
4. Provide advice on housing options, employment, wellbeing, and welfare benefits, including money management, especially to those threatened with homelessness or in private/non-social housing.
5. Respond promptly to homelessness prevention needs through advice, negotiation, mediation, or securing alternative accommodation, promoting a housing options approach.
6. Maintain and develop expertise in housing law, homelessness, housing benefit, and welfare rights.
7. Deliver advice via drop-in services, outreach, and home visits as necessary.
8. Stay updated on legislation and policies related to housing and homelessness, reporting trends and recommending policy changes.
9. Ensure all personal and service targets are met timely.

Requirements

1. Experience working in a high-pressure environment providing quality service.
2. Ability to manage a varied caseload including landlord/tenant issues, mortgage arrears, welfare rights, and homelessness in both public and private sectors.
3. Proficiency in negotiation and mediation to promote housing options.
4. Strong record-keeping skills, ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines.
5. Willingness to undertake home visits and inspections.
6. Enhanced DBS check within the last 12 months or willingness to obtain one.
