Location: Guildford HOST

Salary: £25,965.41 per annum, increasing to £27,112.48 after 18 months of successful performance

Introduction

This is a unique opportunity to join our dynamic Homeless Outreach Support Team (HOST) in Guildford. We aim to transform the lives of those affected by homelessness. We seek resilient, empathetic individuals with a positive attitude to support people in moving away from homelessness and settling into the community.

What will you do?

You will provide tailored, trauma-informed support to vulnerable individuals at risk of or experiencing homelessness, using the Psychologically Informed Environment model. Responsibilities include engaging with rough sleepers, negotiating housing solutions, and facilitating access to health and wellbeing services. The role involves flexible working hours, including occasional early outreach, within a 37.5-hour workweek, Monday to Friday.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support clients from supported housing services.
  • Participate in local partnership meetings.
  • Provide personalized support, respecting cultural and diversity issues.
  • Conduct assertive outreach, visiting known sleep sites and identifying new rough sleepers.
  • Build positive relationships with clients, conducting needs assessments and developing support plans.
  • Make referrals to specialist services such as mental health, substance misuse, and housing agencies.
  • Offer ongoing practical support, including help with benefits, budgeting, and moving on to permanent housing.
  • Maintain accurate records of support activities and client progress.
Minimum Requirements
  • Understanding of challenges faced by homeless and vulnerable individuals.
  • Empathy, resilience, and a flexible, team-oriented approach.
  • Good time management and communication skills.
  • Basic administrative and IT skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience supporting vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care and current benefit systems.
  • Driving license and access to a vehicle.
