Job summary

Nottingham City Council is seeking a Joiner / Multi Skilled Operative (Home Adaptations) to assess residents’ homes, plan and install minor adaptations, and work with contractors on larger works across Nottingham. The role supports safe, independent living and involves environmental risk assessments, workshop fabrication, and direct resident engagement.

You will need practical installation skills, experience in adaptations, ability to manage your workload, and strong communication with residents

Qualifications

• Experience of making, preparing, installing, repairing or maintaining adaptations or similar works within domestic settings.
• Sound technical knowledge of using appropriate tools, fixings and installation methods across a range of surfaces and property types.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload, materials and daily route planning.
• Strong communication skills with residents, including older people and those with disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out environmental and person-centred risk assessments within residents' homes.
• Planning and installing a range of home adaptations and falls prevention equipment.
• Removing trip hazards and undertaking practical works to reduce falls risks.
• Preparing, manufacturing and modifying handrails and other components in a workshop.
• Providing practical advice on home safety and falls prevention.
• Liaising with Occupational Therapy colleagues and other services.
• Managing stock, tools, materials and equipment; safe storage and transport.
• Maintaining accurate manual and electronic records.
• Monitoring contractor works to ensure quality and value for money.
