Job summary

North Yorkshire Councils are recruiting a Joiner to carry out domestic refurbishment and maintenance on social housing stock to Decent Homes standards. You will work with a multi-trade team and may secure a council vehicle for site visits.

The role requires experience in domestic joinery, knowledge of safety regulations, and a willingness to train further. You will provide an out-of-hours emergency joinery service on a rota, maintain records, and contribute to improving housing services while

• Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety and of Building Regulations.
• Provide an out of hours emergency joinery service on a rota basis.

Our Service

Our team works across five key areas of housing expertise: construction, repairs, improvements, contract management, and safety. We manage a diverse range of housing assets, including approximately 8,400 domestic homes, independent living schemes, community centres, and temporary accommodation for the homeless.

The role

The core focus of this role is to carry out essential maintenance, refurbishment or construction works on social housing stock to ensure they meet the Decent Housing Standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out domestic Joiner refurbishments.
• Record and monitor supplied equipment as necessary.
• Work to expected Health & Safety standards and safe systems of work.
• Undertake professional, mandatory, and skills-based training.
• At this grade further training will be available to enhance the skills base as required.

At Multi-Skilled Trade level, you would carry out the above duties but also have experience and a qualification in another trade such as plumbing.

The role will come with a Council vehicle, you will be responsible for carrying out routine vehicle safety checks as required and must ensure compliance with requirements relating to vehicle use and maintenance.

What you will bring

At Joiner Single Trade level, you will:

• You must have relevant qualifications and experience in a specialist trade relating to domestic joinery operations.
• Have experience working in a domestic setting and be familiar with materials, tools and machinery used in the repair, maintenance, or construction of homes.
• You must always communicate efficiently and courteously at appropriate levels.
• Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety and of Building Regulations.
• Provide an out of hours emergency joinery service on a rota basis.

At a Multi Skilled Joiner level you will:

• To carry out maintenance and repair Joinery work as per work orders or specification.
• To carry out maintenance and repair work for the secondary trade in which you are trained.
