Job summary

Kedleston Group is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant ( HLTA Level 4 ) to support students with ASC and SEMH needs. You will assist teachers, deliver targeted interventions, and help create an inclusive learning environment.

This role requires safeguarding commitment and strong communication skills. You will work within Leaways School, part of the Kedleston Group, focusing on personalised learning, therapeutic strategies, and collaboration with pastoral teams to enable every

Qualifications

• HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience working as a teaching assistant or in a similar educational support role.
• Experience working with SEMH and/or ASC needs.
• Strong understanding of child development, autism strategies, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Strong understanding of child development and the primary/secondary curriculum.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage behaviour effectively and support diverse learning needs.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• A proactive and positive approach to supporting student learning.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in planning and delivering engaging lessons tailored to students with ASC and SEMH needs.
• Assist teachers and pastoral teams to create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.
• Deliver targeted 1:1 and small group interventions, supporting students' academic, social, emotional and behavioural development.
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual needs, using therapeutic, communication and behaviour support strategies.
• Monitoring student progress including assessing, recording, and reporting on student achievements.
• Cover lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
• Assist in the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.
