Job summary

Kedleston Group's Leaways School in Clapton is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA Level 4) to support pupils aged 7–17 with ASC and SEMH. You will work with teachers to plan and deliver targeted lessons, tailor support, and monitor progress.

The role offers ongoing training within a supportive environment, with safeguarding at its core. The successful candidate will join a busy, caring school community and have opportunities for professional development and collaboration

Qualifications

• HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience as a teaching assistant or in a similar educational support role.
• Experience working with SEMH and/or ASC needs.
• Strong understanding of child development, autism strategies, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Strong understanding of child development and the primary/secondary curriculum.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage behaviour effectively and support diverse learning needs.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• A proactive and positive approach to supporting student learning.

Responsibilities

• Cover lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
• Assist in the preparation of learning materials and classroom resources.

Who are we?

Leaways School is an independent specialist day school in Clapton, for children and young people aged between the ages of 7 and 17. The school provides a safe learning environment for children and young people with social, emotional and mental health needs including autism and an EHC Plan. We also have a dedicated primary unit taking children from 7 years old. We aim to offer as close to a mainstream experience as possible but provide the additional care and support needed around each young person to enable them to thrive.
