Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting an HLTA for Compass School Athelstan in Westbury, Wiltshire. The role involves supporting pupils with SEMH in a bespoke, child-centred curriculum within a nurturing, therapeutic environment.

The successful candidate will implement tailored learning activities, lead small-group interventions and work alongside teaching and pastoral staff to help pupils reach their potential.

Qualifications

• HLTA status or equivalent qualifications and experience required.
• Experience in a specialist school, Alternative Provision or SEMH setting preferred.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs and able to deliver differentiated activities.
• Excellent communication and ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.

Responsibilities

• Deliver tailored learning activities in line with individual needs.

Job Title: HLTA

Salary: £14.26 - £18.00 per hour

Do you have experience supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a specialist educational setting?

Are you passionate about delivering a bespoke, child-centred curriculum within a nurturing and therapeutic learning environment?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with Compass School Athelstan, a specialist school based in Westbury, Wiltshire, to recruit a dedicated HLTA. The school provides a nurturing, therapeutic learning environment with a bespoke, child-centred curriculum that focuses on individual needs, building positive relationships and helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and a love of learning.

The school is looking to appoint a full-time HLTA on a long-term basis from September 2026, with the opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate. The successful HLTA will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to deliver tailored learning activities, lead small-group interventions and support pupils with SEMH needs to develop positive behaviours, overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Requirements

• HLTA status or relevant equivalent qualifications and experience
• Experience working within a specialist school, Alternative Provision or SEMH setting
• Experience supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to deliver engaging, differentiated learning activities
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff
• A patient, resilient and proactive approach with a genuine passion for supporting young people
