Job summary

Bath Spa University in Bath, Somerset, is looking for a Building Fabric Technician to join the Estates team. You will deliver both planned and reactive maintenance across campus, including historic buildings, performing carpentry and joinery repairs, and maintaining doors and access control systems.

You’ll interpret drawings, coordinate trades, and ensure compliance with building regulations. The role offers hands-on work across multiple trades, with contractor supervision and a strong focus on

Qualifications

• Recognised building trade qualification, ideally via apprenticeship.
• Proven experience in building fabric maintenance and repair.
• Ability to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Knowledge of building regs and compliance requirements.
• Experience supervising contractors and monitoring work quality.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the estate.
• Carry out carpentry and joinery works, including repairs in listed buildings.
• Maintain doors, ironmongery, locks and access control systems.
• Undertake roofing repairs and general fabric maintenance.
• Coordinate drainage and gulley maintenance activities.
• Order materials, manage stock levels and schedule repairs.
• Monitor contractors and liaise with building users to minimise disruption.
• Support condition surveys and refurbishment projects.
• Ensure all work complies with University safety policies.
