Selwood Ltd is expanding its Bedford branch and seeking a Hire Manager to lead the hire desk operations, coordinate branch teams, and ensure customer requirements are met. You will contribute to branch profitability and drive high standards of service.

The role requires supervisory experience in a rental or similar environment, strong planning, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining professional communication with customers and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supervisory role, within a rental business or similar environment.
• Experience running a busy hire desk in a fast-paced setting.
• Experience with multiple software packages and rental systems.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.
• Strong planning and organising skills with ability to re-prioritise customer hires and jobs.
• Ability to multi-task and respond to multiple queries from stakeholders.
• Professional and positive communication with Hire and Branch teams under pressure.
• Strong negotiation/influencing skills using knowledge of products to encourage unplanned sales.
• Experience in logistics, construction or water utilities is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the coordination of all hire desk activities including customer enquiries, quotations, contracts and hire extensions.
• Ensure all hire contracts and paperwork are accurately recorded and available.
• Overseeing the planning and scheduling of branch transport.
• Ensure a high standard of customer service is delivered by the hire desk team.
• Negotiate hire rates.
• Provide day-to-day direction and support to your team.
• Lead and motivate a high-performing team to maximise productivity, engagement, performance and quality.
• Lead and champion a strong health and safety culture across branch activities.
