Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Section 278/38 Engineer to join a Local Authority Development Approvals team in Leicester on an initial 6-month contract.

You will review developers' highway design submissions under Sections 38 and 278, assess against design standards, and provide technical feedback to ensure approval and adoption.

The role favors candidates with civil or highway engineering background and the ability to work independently to clear backlogs and maintain high turnaround.

Qualifications

• Experience reviewing highway design submissions under Section 38 and Section 278.
• Strong knowledge of highway design standards and adoption requirements.
• Background in Local Authority Development Control or Highways Engineering.
• Civil engineering background; degree preferred but experience important.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Review and appraise developers' highway design submissions for approvals.
• Assess designs against local and national standards prior to adoption.
• Provide technical feedback to developers, consultants and design engineers.
• Identify design issues and suggest amendments to achieve technical approval.
• Support the Senior Design Engineer and manage reviews to reduce backlogs.
