Job summary

Solos Consultants Ltd. seeks an experienced Highway Development Engineer to join a busy team in Croft, Leicestershire, overseeing technical approvals for developer highway infrastructure. You will review submissions under S38/S278, assess against standards and guide design teams to timely approvals.

Ideal candidates have highway/civil engineering experience with strong communication and the ability to work independently to reduce backlogs and deliver safe, adoptable roads.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway engineering or civil engineering design.
• Experience reviewing or checking highway design submissions.
• Knowledge of Section 38 and Section 278 agreements and developer-led highway works.
• Understanding of applicable highway design standards and guidance.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Review and appraise developer highway design submissions under Section 38 and Section 278 of the Highways Act 1980.
• Assess designs against relevant local and national highway standards and specifications.
• Identify design deficiencies and provide technical feedback to achieve compliance.
• Liaise with developers, consultants and design teams to resolve issues and progress approvals.
• Support the Senior Design Engineer in managing applications and reducing turnaround times.
• Ensure proposed highway infrastructure meets safety, quality and adoptability standards.
