Job summary

Kier is recruiting a Highways Maintenance Operative to join our streetlighting team in Birmingham. This permanent, full-time role offers 45 hours per week, with a salary between £32,000 and £35,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

You'll work on excavation tasks, backfill and reinstatement, and ensure health and safety compliance while collaborating with colleagues across the site. A positive attitude and a valid driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

  • You have previous experience with excavations and understanding of HSG47.
  • Knowledge of streetlighting civils tasks.
  • NRSWA operative.
  • You have a full driving licence.
  • Enjoy collaborative work and cross-team relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake excavations in footpaths, track work and joint holes.
  • Assist with backfill and reinstatement to quality standards.
  • Complete documentation to meet health & safety and NERS requirements.
  • Support the team as safety assistant for live LV cable jointers.
  • Drive works vehicles and follow HSG47 safety protocols.

Location: Thimble Mill Lane, Birmingham, B7 5HR Hours: Permanent, full time, 45 hours per week Salary: £32,000 to £35,000 depending on experience and qualifications We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Join our friendly streetlighting department at Kier where you'll play a vital role in maintaining essential infrastructure. What will you be responsible for?
  • Undertaking excavations in various materials within footpaths, including track work and joint holes
  • Assisting with backfill and reinstatement of excavations to meet quality standards
  • Completing documentation to comply with health & safety and NERS requirements
  • Supporting the team in various tasks, such as serving as safety assistant for live LV cable jointers
  • Driving works vehicles and adhering to HSG47 safety protocols
