Qualifications

  • Hold a full driving licence and be able to respond quickly to emergency highway maintenance incidents.
  • Experience or knowledge of highways maintenance, roadworks, traffic management, or civil engineering activities.
  • Possess a valid CSCS Skilled Worker card (or higher) and understand safe working practices on the highway network.

  • Responding to emergency highway defects, attending and making safe situations, and completing repairs to a high technical standard.
  • Driving and operating specialist vehicles and plant, including daily checks and routine maintenance.
  • Undertaking all aspects of highway maintenance works including routine, cyclical maintenance and minor civils works.
  • Taking responsibility for the safety of yourself, your team and the public, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Completing necessary paperwork and records, liaising with colleagues, emergency services, clients and the public.

Job description

Come join our Birmingham Highways Maintenance team as a Highways Maintenance Operative Emergency Response, where you’ll play a vital role in keeping our highways safe and well‑maintained. Location: Thimble Mill Lane Depot, Aston Birmingham B7 5HR
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us

What will you be responsible for?

As a Highways Maintenance Operative Emergency Response, you’ll be working within the Birmingham Highways Maintenance team, supporting them in delivering high‑quality highway maintenance services. Your day to day will include:

  • Responding to emergency highway defects, attending and making safe situations, and completing repairs to a high technical standard
