Job summary

Amey Consulting – Civil Engineer in the Midlands is recruiting a permanent Highways Engineer to join our Design and Development team. You will support the Senior Engineer and lead junior engineers in designing and delivering highway projects from junction improvements to new roads and bridges.

The role offers 40-hour weeks with hybrid and flexible working options across our Midlands offices in Nottingham, Birmingham and Stafford.

Qualifications

• Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Relevant experience in highway engineering, particularly local roads and S278 layouts.
• Ability to work commercially and meet programme objectives.
• Able to supervise junior staff.
• Knowledge of Manual for Streets, DMRB, and local standards.
• Understanding of CDM regulations.
• Ability to support briefs for fee quotes.
• Proven ability to deliver on time, within budget and to quality.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team providing technically sound highway designs, complying with standards and client requirements, supervising junior staff.
• Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation for scheme deliverables within cost and programme constraints.
• Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings and responding to queries.
• Managing a small, locally based single-discipline technical team and delivering workload.
• Contributing to bid preparations and general work-winning activities.
• Working on site as required, including out-of-hours working.
