Job summary

City of Doncaster Council is seeking an Assistant Engineer to support Highway Developers Agreements (S38/S278) under the Highways Act 1980. This permanent, full-time role is based in Doncaster and requires coordinating with developers and contractors to deliver safe, compliant highways schemes.

You will review proposals, prepare agreements, issue permits, supervise site works, and ensure all documentation and drawings meet required standards.

Qualifications

• Strong technical knowledge of highway engineering and construction.
• Awareness of CDM Regulations 2015 and health and safety legislation.
• Ability to supervise highway works to approved plans and standards.

Responsibilities

• Receive enquiries from developers relating to highway infrastructure under S38/S184/S278 and issue forms.
• Undertake technical evaluation of proposed works and ensure drawings meet standards.
• Prepare information to enable S38/S278 agreements (drawings, fees, bonds, sums).
• Issue permits to work on highways per the Traffic Management Act.
• Supervise works on site and ensure compliance with drawings.
• Sign off completed works and issue certificates.
