Job summary

West Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Principal Highways Engineer to lead the Highways Development Management team. You will manage the end-to-end highway agreements (S38/S278), oversee design reviews, and ensure adoption of new infrastructure into the public highway network.

This senior role requires mentoring junior engineers, negotiating with developers, and coordinating with planning, legal and highway colleagues to deliver safe, sustainable growth across West Northamptonshire.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in highways development management.
• Proven ability to lead on S38/S278 agreements and adoption processes.
• Strong design review and technical assessment capabilities.
• Ability to negotiate with developers and consultants to secure improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead on technical review and approval of highway agreements (S38/S278).
