Job summary

National Highways is seeking a Construction Manager for the Yorkshire North East region. The role will lead resources and activities to oversee quality and H&S compliance in delivering construction works through multiple contractor frameworks, coordinating over 30 contractors on schemes totalling around £60m annually.

Based at Wakefield or Darlington with possible unsociable hours. You will manage in-house teams, ensure safety across projects, and drive continuous improvements while aligning

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in relevant engineering discipline (desirable; civil engineering degree preferred) OR extensive highway/structures construction experience.
  • IOSH or Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • Experience in CDM compliance through construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Managing suppliers and staff to assure safety, quality and efficient delivery of construction.
  • Ensure health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers, employees and all parties involved in projects are fully considered.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and line management for the Region's in-house Construction team.
  • Proactively identify and implement continuous improvements which eliminate, reduce, or provide greater control for risks arising during construction.
  • Provide subject matter input and inform solution design and work packaging to reduce / eliminate risks to health and safety and improve buildability during construction.
