Job summary

Bridgend County Borough Council is seeking a Street Works Inspector to work within the Street Works Management Team in the Communities Directorate. The role focuses on inspections and ensuring reinstatements and works comply with the NRSWA and Traffic Management Act, while minimising disruption to the highway network.

The ideal candidate will have highway network experience, strong arithmetic skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, external companies, and the public.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway inspection and working within a highway network environment.
• Good arithmetic skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, external companies and the public.
• Welsh language ability is a requirement for this post.
• Valid driving licence is a requirement for this post.

Responsibilities

• Undertake ‘Random Sample Inspections’ in accordance with The New Roads and Street Works Act Code of Practice for Inspections.
• Undertake ‘Defect Inspections’ in accordance with The New Roads and Street Works Act Code of Practice for Inspections.
• Deal with problems associated with defective utility apparatus in the highway.
• Meet Statutory Undertakers on site to plan street works per NRSWA and Traffic Management Act 2004.
• Liaise with statutory undertaker’s representatives to ensure rectification of poor workmanship and non‑compliance within timescales.
• Assist The Street Works Manager in monitoring and management of Street Works and other licensable activities in the highway.
• Investigate and handle complaints and enquiries from the public and Bridgend County Borough Members.
